Laminate buying guide

Laminate flooring remains a popular choice in many homes and is great for living areas and rooms where carpet isn’t recommended, like your kitchen.

Why choose laminate?

Laminate is a durable flooring option, so it well in high traffic areas in your home such as hallways and landings. However, due to the inflexible nature of the material, laminate is not suitable for stairs.

It’s easy to maintain, warm underfoot and is incredibly durable – our range is scuff, scratch, fade and even burn resistant. As well as being low maintenance, dust mites can’t live within laminate flooring, making it an ideal choice for allergy sufferers.

Making your style selection

Our range of laminate flooring includes realistic hardwood and stone textures, to create the look and feel of the real thing, at a fraction of the price. The multiple layers of laminate flooring ensure your real wood or stone look remains protected, giving you a great finish suitable for any room.

With so many textures, finishes and styles to choose from, the hardest part of laminate flooring is making your selection. That’s why we’ve separated our range into four collections:

Laminate underlay

Choosing the right underlay for your laminate flooring is an important part of the selection process.

Teaming your laminate selection with the right type of underlay gives insulation for heat and sound, as well as comfort and cushioning underfoot. To get the best value out of your new laminate flooring we’d always recommend buying new underlay alongside it, and the thicker the underlay the more noise protection it will give you.

Our in-store carpet & flooring specialists will help you make your selection, or call our dedicated team on 0800 731 0048.

The perfect finish

As well as underlay, every laminate range comes with its own selection of finishing touches, such as beading and door bars.

Laminate flooring is usually fitted against your skirting boards, which creates the need for beading in order to get a neater finish.

However, we’d recommend you consider having your skirting boards removed ahead of your laminate flooring being fitted. This would mean you don’t need beading and you’ll achieve the perfect finish. This would have to be done by a professional joiner, not an ScS flooring fitter.

Our in-store carpet & flooring specialists can help you choose what’s best, or you can consult our dedicated team on 0800 731 0048 for advice.
