Vinyl buying guide
Vinyl buying guide
Vinyl has long been a trusted go-to in flooring. An extremely hard wearing option, it’s ideal for families with pets and children, and especially for busy homes.
Why choose vinyl flooring?
There’s a whole host of reasons why vinyl flooring would make a great addition to your home.
To start, it’s soft and comfortable underfoot, and works well with under-floor heating to give your home that extra touch of comfort. Not only that, but vinyl’s slip resistance makes it a perfect choice for bathrooms, kitchens and utilities.
Although suitable for landings and hallways, we don’t recommend using vinyl flooring on stairs.
Making your selection
The versatility of vinyl and its many finishes means you can achieve a perfect look for any room.
Both in store and online, our sheet vinyl flooring ranges come available in wood, mineral and patterned finishes. Some ranges also have textured finishes for the look and feel of real wood or stone, without their price tag.
Achieving the perfect finish
Before you lay your vinyl, it’s really key to let it acclimatise to the room in which it will be laid. Do this for at least 24 hours ahead of having it fitted.
Depending upon the type of vinyl flooring you choose, there are different ways to achieve the perfect finish. If you’re buying online, you can call our carpet & flooring specialists on 0800 731 0048 to get advice on what fitting options we’d recommend for you.

How can I pay for my new vinyl flooring?
At ScS, we accept all major credit and debit cards in-store and online, including Visa, Mastercard, Maestro and American Express, as well as PayPal. In-store, you can also pay with cash.
Alternatively, take advantage of our 4 years' free credit offer, 0% APR representative offer, available on all sofa and flooring purchases over £250. Choose the 'Pay Monthly' option at the basket and one of our personal shopping advisors will then call you to walk you through the credit application and process your order.
When will my vinyl flooring be delivered and how much will it cost?
As each order is tailor-made to your requirements, we’ll let you know when you should expect to receive your flooring at the point of purchase. You can find out more information here.
There is a £49 delivery cost, but this may increase if you live outside of a 30-mile radius of your nearest ScS store. Read more about delivery charges here.
Who will fit my new vinyl flooring?
The fitting of your flooring is not included in the delivery cost, and we do not fit any flooring ourselves. However, we can arrange for an independent fitter to fit your flooring for you. If you’re buying online, please call our dedicated carpet & flooring team on 0800 731 0048 after you’ve placed your order and they’ll be able to help you arrange your fitting.
Payment should be made to your flooring fitter on the day of installation and the contract for the work is between you and the fitter. The current fitting rate for fitting vinyl flooring is £4.25 per square metre.
You can find out more about our flooring fitting charges here.
How long is my vinyl guaranteed for?
At ScS, we offer a 12 month guarantee on any parts and labour should anything go wrong when fitting your new flooring, however the product itself is guaranteed for up to 20 years.
Further information can be found in the product information when you view our laminate flooring online.
How should I clean my new vinyl flooring?
Buying new flooring is an investment and we understand that you want it to look good for years to come.
Regular sweeping will keep your floor free of any dust and dirt. Because vinyl is non-absorbent, you can use water and other liquids for a more thorough clean, and for stain removal. Although vinyl is hard-wearing, you should read the manufacturer’s guidelines as well as the labels of any detergents, before use.
