Scratches, scrapes and scuffs in your flooring can occur very easily.
Moving furniture around, pet paws, debris from shoes and dropping objects are the main causes of marks and it can be incredibly frustrating when you find a flaw on your flooring.
Thankfully, there are some simple ways to fix these little imperfections without having to replace the whole floor.
Here are my handy hints for repairing laminate flooring:
1. Furniture marker pens
These specialist marker pens can be used to repair scratches.
Before you begin, make sure that the marker you’re using matches the colour of the floor you are repairing.
Prepare the area by ensuring it is clean before beginning.
Please ensure you use the cleaning method approved by your manufacturer.
Once dried, apply the marker to the scratch and remove any excess product with a damp cloth.
This is one of the easiest ways to cover up a scratch, involving minimal mess and boasting immediate results!
2. Wax repair sticks
Wax filler sticks are a type of laminate floor filler used for patching up deeper scratches, nicks and dents.
As before, ensure the wax stick matches the colour of your flooring.
Prepare your floor by giving it a clean and then warm up the max.
Once workable, apply it to the damaged area and wait for it to solidify.
Remove any excess wax carefully with a knife once it has hardened a little and then clean once dry.
3. Burn-in sticks
Burn-in sticks are a hot melt resin ideal for repairing deep scratches and dents.
Before you begin, prepare the damaged area by clearing it of any dirt or debris and ensure it is clean.
Melt a little of the burn-in stick and apply it to the scratch or dent using a burn-in knife
(you should have one of these included with your laminate repair kit).
Carefully smooth over with the knife until you have a layer of the mixture over the repair.
4. Install a new plank
If all else fails or a board is very damaged then it may be best to replace your old board with a new one.
When purchasing your laminate, it is a good idea to buy an extra pack in case of emergencies such as this.
If you don’t have any extra laminate boards, visit the manufacturer or store where you purchased your flooring to see if they have any more in stock or ask if they can recommend a similar product.
