What is vinyl flooring?

Vinyl flooring is a synthetic flooring material that is durable and comes in large flexible sheets. A sheet vinyl floor is completely impermeable to water.

How to clean vinyl flooring

Cleaning vinyl flooring is easy! Simply use a damp cloth, or use a mop to clean the surface with warm water. Most floor cleaning products can also be used on vinyl, but always be sure to check the label before use. Please see our vinyl care guide for more info.

How do I lay vinyl flooring?

Fitting vinyl flooring is a messy job, it can be done if you have a bit of know-how. Alternatively - We can send someone to measure; all you would need to do is pick your flooring. You would be able to do this by paying a £59 refundable deposit which will get a surveyor sent out to you. The refundable deposit means if you choose not to go ahead with the order you get it back, or if you decide to go ahead it comes off your final bill. To arrange this, you can call us on: 0800 731 0048 - For more info please see our Carpet & Flooring fitting guide.

Is vinyl flooring water resistant?

Vinyl flooring is water-resistant - so that it can be used in the kitchen, bathroom or utility room where there will be splashes, spills and humidity.

Vinyl vs. linoleum – What’s the difference?

This is quite a popular question for most customers. The good news is that vinyl flooring will generally adhere to most types of subflooring, including wood. You may have to sand the wood to ensure there are no rough areas which would cause the vinyl to "bubble" but generally this isn't an issue.

Will vinyl flooring stick to concrete/wood?

This is quite a popular question for most customers, and if you're wondering how to install vinyl tiles or vinyl over a wood floor - The good news is that vinyl flooring will generally adhere to most types of subflooring, including wood and concrete. You may have to sand the wood or smooth the existing concrete to ensure there are no rough areas which would cause the vinyl to "bubble" but generally this isn't an issue.

Is vinyl flooring suitable for pets?

Vinyl flooring is most definitely suitable for pets! As we know all too well, pets can sometimes wreak havoc on flooring. Scuffs, scratches and stains can occur from heavy domestic use. The positive is that vinyl is relatively inexpensive, so it's cheap and easy to replace if needs be.

Can vinyl flooring be used with underfloor heating?

Vinyl flooring can be laid over most underfloor heating systems including "wet" or "dry" systems. It works very well with underfloor heating, as the heat can easily permeate the thin layer. However, as most vinyl should not be heated above 26°C, the underfloor heating should be restricted for use.

Is vinyl flooring eco-friendly?

It may surprise you to learn that vinyl is now one of the most environmentally friendly options around! Made with sustainable practices, many containing recycled content and all fully recyclable after use, vinyl also lasts a long time.

How thick is vinyl flooring?

The thickness of our vinyl varies by product. Vinyl is substantially thicker than laminate or LVT flooring options. The most important thing to note is the actual thickness of the wear layer, which is more important than the total thickness. A thicker vinyl will be more cushioned underfoot of course, as it contains more air but if it's in a high traffic area, this will compress over time with people walking on it. This means that a thinner vinyl with a thicker wear layer would be the more durable and hardwearing option.
