Trending: Blue dining room ideas

Bright and breezy or dark and moody. Bring some brilliant blues into your eating area using my décor hints and furniture picks for blue dining rooms.

You’ve chosen your designated dining room or dining area within your lounge or kitchen, now you just need to pick your perfect colour palette to pack it with some personality.

If you’re thinking of a blue colour scheme for your dining room, you’ve made an excellent choice.

Amazingly versatile, a blue colour palette offers a variety of options when it comes to choosing the right shade for you.

From cool pastel shades to the deep depths of navy, or royal blue for a bold backdrop.

Whichever blue hue you choose will set the mood for your dining experience.

Luckily, I've got plenty of blue dining room ideas to help you create a welcoming atmosphere:

Light blue dining room

Choosing pale blue tones will bring a calm, coastal feel to a dining area and create a relaxed atmosphere for informal dining.

Using lighter shades will also give the room a spacious, airy feel – the ideal choice for a smaller dining room.

The lighter you go, the more neutral the colour will be, giving you more options when choosing furniture, furnishings and accessories.

For more of the natural vibe, pair your pale palette with rustic looking lighter wooden dining furniture.

Adding bench seating will also help to extend a relaxed ambience, and is a practical addition if you have a few children or extra guests to seat!

Dark blue dining room

Whereas lighter shades offer a relaxed feeling, darker tones give a sense of sophistication and suggest the idea of a more deluxe dining experience.

Dark colours give a cosy and homely feel, providing a warm space for intimate dining.

For your dining furniture, dark wood is a great match with a moodier colour scheme. Our Wandsworth Dining Table looks stunning against a dark blue background - as seen at the top of the page!

If you want to try something different to the traditional wood look, the addition of sleek white or marble furniture and furnishings will offer an extra element of extravagance and a fantastic contrast against a dark or navy dining room.

Adding another colour to your blue dining room

Make your blue dining room stand out with some splashes of eye-catching colours. Adding a shade on the opposite end of the colour wheel will add a striking contrast and really make your blue dining room pop.

Add some brightly coloured cushions to your dining chairs or a playful rug under your seating area.

How about adding a couple of bright yellow dining chairs, such as our Montero Bistro Dining Chairs in Mustard to your seating area, or our slightly softer dusky pink version.

Add a contemporary touch with the use of some modern metallic accessories.

Flashes of gold, silver, copper and brass will compliment both a pale or dark colour palette.

Use rugs, lampshades, mirrors, tableware and ornaments to add some shimmer to your space:

Here are some of my top picks of both dark wood, light wood and white coloured dining tables that would suit a blue dining room.

Blue dining chairs

Brave some bold in your dining room by adding some beautifully vibrant blue or navy dining chairs.

Hugely versatile, blue dining room chairs will pair well with many dining tables, particularly wood or glossy white tables, and add a lively focal point to your dining room.

If you have opted for a more neutral colour scheme, such as white or grey, the addition of some blue chairs will add a pop of colour and personality to the space.

Here are my picks for striking blue seating:

I hope I’ve given you enough inspiration to give your home a touch of the blues. For more blue interior ideas, read another one of my style articles: Navy blue sofa styling ideas.
