Caring for your dining furniture

I’ve put together a handy care guide with lots of tips to help you keep your dining furniture looking like new.

Your dining furniture is a favoured feature in your home.

From enjoying evening meals, hosting dinner parties and sharing the day’s goings on with loved ones, your dining table and chairs is often the setting for many of life’s events.

That’s why it’s important to look after your dining furniture and keep it looking its best.

Cleaning your dining furniture

Before cleaning your dining furniture, it’s important to read the manufacturer’s guidelines and use recommended products.

Your furniture’s cleaning requirements will depend on the type of material it is made from, as each one will have different properties.

Ensure you only use methods recommended for your furniture, as using different products and tools may cause damage.

Wipe down your glass surface using a clean cloth and hot, soapy water to remove any spills.

Once your table is clean, use a lint-free cloth to dry it and remove any watermarks for the best possible finish.

Regular dusting using a dry, soft cloth will help to remove any dust and dirt from your marble table .

I recommend dusting 2-3 times a week to help prevent dust build-up.

For a deeper clean, we recommend using hot soapy water and a damp cloth, before drying with a lint-free cloth.

Avoid using dusting sprays or abrasive cleaners as they can damage the high lacquer finish.

High gloss

The easy-clean nature of high gloss furniture makes it ideal for modern living.

Spills are easy to wipe away with a clean, damp cloth and should be dried with a lint-free cloth to avoid watermarks.

Be careful not to put too much pressure on the table as gloss surfaces can scratch easily when overworked.

Avoid using abrasive products and cloths as these could also damage the finish.

Wooden tables often need a little more care when cleaning.

Our oak wood furniture comes complete with a protective finish to avoid staining, however regular dusting and cleaning with a damp cloth is key to ensuring your table remains looking its best.

Wipe with a clean, damp cloth to remove spills and dry thoroughly with a lint-free cloth.

For stubborn spills, use a small amount of dish soap.

Be careful not to soak the table and wipe up any liquids as soon as possible to avoid damaging or staining the wood.

Cleaning up major spills

To clean up major spills, blot the area immediately with a clean cloth or towel to soak up as much of the excess as possible.

You may need to have it professionally cleaned.

Please do not attempt to clean up the spill with harsh cleaning products as this may cause further damage to your furniture.

Cleaning your dining table

It's not just your table you need to keep looking fresh; your dining chairs need a little TLC every now and again too:

Chrome and metal chairs

For the best results, wipe down the legs of your chrome and metal chairs using a damp cloth.

Avoid using any abrasive cleaning agents and use a dry cloth to buff out watermarks for added shine.

Faux leather

Faux leather’s easy-to-clean surface ensures that any spillages can be wiped away easily, without the need for detergents.

We’d recommend using a damp cloth, with regular dusting in between, to keep your new faux-leather chairs looking fresh.

When cleaning fabric dining chairs, always ensure you pat the area of a spill, taking care not to rub in any of the liquid. Before using any stain removal products, always read the manufacturer's guidelines.

Upholstered chairs

Upholstered chairs require a little extra care.

For spillages, use a towel or a clean cloth to soak up as much of the excess fluid as possible, taking care to pat (not rub) the area.

Refer to your manufacturer’s care guide for the best solutions to treat stains.

Protecting your furniture

As well as regular cleaning, there are other things you can do to protect your dining furniture. Follow my top tips for keeping your table and chairs in good condition:

● Help protect the finish on your dining table by investing in table cloths, mats and coasters

● Protect wooden chairs with washable seat cushions

● Place your dining room table and chairs away from direct sunlight, radiators or other sources of heat, as these factors can sometimes speed up the wearing process. This is particularly important with oak wood tables, which can become dried out if they’re over-exposed to heat or sunlight. If you’re looking to place your furniture near a window, always try to keep your curtains and blinds closed or dipped when the sun is at its strongest.

● Avoid rocking on or standing on chairs as this extra weight can weaken them

● If you need to move your furniture, always lift carefully and avoid dragging or pushing them as this can cause damage and affect the stability of the items

● Apply felt pads to the bottom of any ornaments, lamps or vases etc. to avoid accidental scratches or marks

● Take care with sharp objects such as cutlery and try not to scrape them along surfaces

Make sure any spills are wiped up as soon they occur to avoid staining

That’s why we offer a five year Furniture Guard protection on top of our standard 12 month guarantee.

Furniture guard is calculated at 10% of the total cost of your furniture - e.g. if you purchase a dining table for £799, furniture guard would be priced at £79.90.
