Create a timeless space with my 8 creative ideas for achieving an elegant, white dining room.

Written by:

Versatile, sophisticated and full of endless possibilities, white evokes a sense of calm and serenity in any room, creating a perfect environment in which to relax.

In a smaller dining room, white can make the space feel larger and lighter; it can expand the space of a bigger room, and create a blank canvas for bold artwork, colourful furnishings and interesting features.

Read my 8 ideas to embrace this ageless trend in your dining room.

1. White walls

Painting your walls brilliant white is an obvious way to incorporate this clean-looking trend into your home.

There are also whites with undertones of other colours, which may alter the ambience of your space. Hints of blue, grey and purple offer a cooler feel, whereas tinges of green offer a warmer vibe, or choose pink for something fresh and feminine.

Tip: When picking your paint, look out for easy to clean options so you can easily wipe up those accidental splashes and spills!

If you prefer something with a pattern, opt for a white wallpaper to add some interest to your walls.

From papers with a stylish shimmer design for a homely and elegant feel, to a embossed wallpaper for subtle features.

2. White dining room furniture

An alternative to the traditional dark wooden sets, white dining room furniture offers an elegant option, and is available in a variety of stylish finishes.

The primary focus in any dining room, a dining table can be used to set the tone for your chosen atmosphere.

A white wood dining table offers a certain shabby, country charm, ideal for creating the right ambience for relaxed dining.

On the other end of the scale, a high-gloss white dining table will add a modern and clean look to your dining area.

Place your white pieces against a bold or dark backdrop, such as deep navy, for a dramatic contrast, or make a statement with your neutral colour scheme by placing white furniture amidst all-white walls to make a theatrical impact.

3. White flooring

White flooring immediately refreshes a room and adds a classy feel to any space.

Incredibly versatile, white flooring blends beautifully with any colour scheme – from all-white to bold and bright.

Though it may feel risky to lay white flooring in a space where you’ll be eating (particular where children are involved!), there are plenty of practical, easy to clean options available.

For something durable and stylish, vinyl is an obvious choice. In additional to its high functionality, vinyl comes in a variety of attractive finishes – from realistic wood designs to contemporary art-deco patterns.

White laminate also offers a practical option, with stain resistant choices and a huge range of effective finishes to compliment your décor.

If white flooring feels too big a commitment, the addition of a white rug under your dining table will make a feature of your dining area.

4. White marble furniture

Effortlessly elegant, marble furniture boasts a distinctive, incomparable look, offering high gloss, sleek designs, which never go out of fashion.

The beauty of a white marble dining table is that it is compatible with so many décor schemes and will add a sense of sophistication to any dining room.

Choose pieces with a marble top and industrial style black or brushed metallic legs or base for a modern edge.

Pair your marble with some matching white chairs or make your dining set stand out with some boldly coloured chairs.

5. Go modern with monochrome

Bring some serious style to the table with a black and white dining room. Always an interior design staple, the black and white combination is a look that will never cease to impress and is easily achievable.

Sit a black table in a white dining room or a white dining table and chairs amongst black décor, or simply add some black accessories to a white colour scheme.

Break up white walls with some black stripes or black-framed artwork.

Add some white chairs to a black dining table for a fantastic contrast or a black rug to some white flooring.

Contrasting tableware will also add a dramatic look to a laid table.

The additional of black rugs, chairs, curtains and lamps are a simple way to create your striking black and white dining room.

6. Take on the Scandi design

Use your all-white interior to adopt a minimalist style inspired by the Scandinavian aesthetic.

Known for its laid-back approach and simplistic flair, the Scandinavian design focuses on creating a calming environment, using simply designed furniture, a pale colour palette, natural materials and open spaces for a fuss-free existence.

Think furniture with clean, wooden lines, such as our Torino dining table, lots of natural light and minimal accessories to avoid the space looking too cluttered.

Add warmth with potted plants and cosy elements such as cuddly cushions and sumptuously soft faux fur throws.

7. White accessories

Now that you have your white dining room décor down, it’s time to complete the look with some accent accessories.

Continue your white scheme with matching decorations or compliment dark decorated walls with artwork in white frames or white bordered mirrors.

Add some warmth with the use of white furnishings, such as rugs, cushions and lamps, or add a crisp white tablecloth to your table to add an understated elegance to your dining setting.

Table staples, such as placemats and coasters are an easy win for incorporating white into your dining area, especially if you have a contrasting dark wood or black dining table.

Keep it simple with some timeless white crockery to serve up some appetising treats to guests.

8. Play with pops of colour

Bring your white dining room to life with some splashes of colour.

The beauty of a white room is that it provides ample opportunities to play with different colours, and white, the most neutral of colours, complements them all!

If you’re feeling like your white dining room is lacking some personality, add some colour with bright accessories, artwork, or a feature wall if you feel the space needs it.

A nice pastel, like a blush pink, pale blue or delicate green works really well in a white room, and adds an inviting warmth to a cool space.

Now that I've hopefully given you some inspiration for creating your own white dining room, I hope you have fun finding the right pieces to suit your style.
