Styling your home throughout the seasons can seem like a monumental task, especially if you want to keep up with interior trends.

Luckily, there are some super simple ways to keep your home on trend and on topic the whole year through, whilst avoiding redecorating ruses.

Take a look at my handy hints below for keeping your home looking stylish from season to season:

1. Swap your cushions

Refreshing your sofa’s scatter cushions is an easy and cost-effective way to revive your living room’s look.

Summertime is the perfect time for utilising bright cheery colours such as yellow or blush pink, whereas winter calls for warmer or darker tones such as olive green, earthy brown and rust-coloured hues of orange and terracotta.

The type of fabric you choose can make a big difference too.

Try swapping linen cushion covers for cosier materials like brushed cotton, velvet or boucle to create an irresistible assemble you’ll want to curl up in.

Mixing different materials is also a great tip for adding depth, interest and warmth to a space.

2. Add some cosy throws

Once those cooler nights start creeping in, you’ll want something handy to wrap around you.

It’s easy to warm up your space with a throw or two.

During those chilly, darker evenings, it’s all about layering up and there’s nothing more inviting than a chunky knitted blanket.

As with your cushion covers, different textures and patterns will add an even cosier appearance, so don’t be afraid to mix your fabrics.

If you don’t want to have extra throws lying around during the cooler months, a storage footstool offers a stylish hiding place for keeping your seasonal extras.

3. Focus on your lighting

During the summer months, it’s a good idea to embrace the natural light seeping through your windows.

Not only does light make your home feel airy and larger, it also has proven mood-boosting qualities.

Make the most of natural light by opting for thinner curtains or voiles and swap them for thicker, insulating drapes when autumn and winter roll around with its pulled-in evenings and gloomy mornings.

You can make the most of the cosiness the darker months bring by ensuring your house is well-lit during the day so that it still feels inviting.

This will help keep the mood light and bright, even when it’s dark outside.

A dimmer may be a good option as you can set the lighting depending on how much or little natural light you have coming in, or set an atmospheric mood with a selection of table and floor lamps.

Unsure what kind of additional lighting you may need in the darker months?

4. Warm up your flooring

Your tiled or wooden flooring may be a blessing in the summer, offering a refreshing feeling underfoot, however, when the cold starts setting in, you may want to have something warm to step on to.

Rugs are a great way to inject some warmth into the home.

Not only do they help a room look inviting and add an attractive focal point to a living space, they also have insulating properties and help give any room a cosy, comforting feel.

Think about adding texture with fluffy or deep pile rugs that offer more depth and warmth or rugs made from natural materials like jute for a relaxed, rustic vibe.

How do you bring autumn and winter into your home?

The autumn and winter seasons are all about bringing comfort and cosiness into your home.

Cosy spaces are typically full of warm colours; they feel safe and welcoming, and have a variety of textures and patterns going on.

Choosing the right colour palette is key to creating a welcoming space.

Dark greens, reds, oranges and browns are generally colours that you would associate with the time of year.

You don’t need to paint a room in these shades for it to feel warm and inviting, but just adding these cosy colours as accents can add little nods to the change in season.

The scents we enjoy also shift throughout the year.

Adding some scented candles into your home is another great way to transition into the harvest season.

Look out for smells like pumpkin spice for a not to Halloween and cinnamon for some festive feels.

Compared to summer and spring which are typically synonymous with scents of clean linen and fresh citrus fragrances.

How do you bring summer into your house?

When the nights start getting lighter and the days get a little longer, there’s nothing nicer than brushing off the cobwebs and bringing a few splashes of summer into your home.

After the long, dark months, it’s fair to say, we’re all ready to let some sunshine back into our spaces.

For the ultimate summer colour schemes, go bright and bold!

Add pops of orange, blue or yellow to your room for a vibrant scheme, or go for something more low-key, with pale lemon, delicate pink or soft lilac.

Refreshing greens and colours found in nature are always reminiscent of spring and the warmer months, and put an uplifting energy back into the home following the moody winter nights.

Getting your home summer-ready can benefit from a little prep to ensure you’re making the most of the season.

While it might seem like an obvious thing to do, this is the perfect time to tackle all that clutter that has built up over the winter.

Spring cleaning can really make a difference.

Not only will this have a huge impact on your living space but also on your emotional well-being.

Plants and florals are also a given when it comes to the spring and summer months and even adding some seasonal plants and flowers can give a hint to the changing of the season, with bursts of green and pretty pastel shades.

Think about hanging summer-themed artwork such as beachside scenes or botanical inspired prints, as this is an easy way of introducing a summer vibe to your room.

Transitioning your home through the seasons is relatively easy and simple to do just a few tweaks with your décor, fragrance and texture choices are all it takes to make a noticeable difference.

I hope my article has given you plenty of ways to switch up your home’s style during the changing month, so you can keep it feeling fresh and looking great!
