What type of flooring is best for kitchens?
‘Best’ can mean all sorts of things to different people. For some, it could mean the most modern-looking and easiest to clean, while for others, the ‘best’ kitchen flooring in their eyes is something that’s going to last for years and years and is the most affordable.
From a practical perspective, the best type of kitchen flooring can stand up to how it’s treated every day, with the most common floor types including: tiles, vinyl, laminate, carpets and Luxury Vinyl Tile (LVT).
What is the hardest wearing kitchen flooring?
Tiles and vinyl are up there when it comes to finding kitchen flooring that’s durable and designed to withstand the wear and tear of everyday life in one of the busiest rooms in any home.
Tiles
Granite tiles are renowned for being hard-wearing because granite is a natural stone. Glazed porcelain tiles are also a popular wear-resistant choice and, once fitted, require minimal maintenance, if anything at all.
Vinyl
Highly practical and easy to install compared to other kitchen flooring, vinyl features in plenty of kitchens because it can withstand lots of usage, it’s easy to clean, and water spillages don’t wind up with it getting warped (like wood does).
There’s also Luxury Vinyl Tiles (LVT), which is a more cost effective option and less labour intensive way of having a tile effect kitchen floor.
What is the best laminate flooring for kitchens?
There are so many different laminate options out there, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed if you’re looking for just one style you like for your kitchen floor.
As is the case with most products, laminate isn’t of the same quality across the board.
My advice - if you’re looking for something that’s going to last, keep an eye out for options that have a 10, 20, and even, 30-year stain guarantee.
It’s also possible to buy laminate that comes with a guarantee wear for up to 30 years and is slightly thicker than most for extra comfort.
What is the easiest kitchen floor to keep clean?
